Students Past and Present

One of the most wonderful experiences when teaching is when you see the light bulbs going off in your students heads. When you first see these students start learning, they have no balance, they have no poise, no idea on motion or how to create different types of power. When you see them work on something that they find so hard at first, then a few months go by and they are doing it without any thought. The technique or form once practised for some time will turn into something beautiful to watch. I remember when my teacher told me these things, and now I am experiencing these things for myself. We have had many excellent students from the past, and present. Many students leave when they go to university, which is a terrible loss for us. The reason for this is we put so much time into teaching someone from the time they are very young. By the time they are ready to go to university, they are at levels in their training which is incredible to watch. But university is something that is more useful today then it ever was. Regardless of how much it costs to go to university, it is well worth the effort. We sure are sad to see these students leave, on the other hand, we know that we did our job well for these young students. Whether it was lessons dealing with date rape, or self defense, it helps students so much when moving to a large city from this small area.
